2011 Year Ender Post

Happy New Year everyone!

2011 started off pretty well for me. I was still on a high from the awesome events of 2010 and I was excited to do some things in 2011. I think I have done what I can, and I enjoyed the ride immensely.

Highlights of my 2011
My first trip out of the country: My best friend Carmenez invited me to join her family’s trip to Singapore and a cruise onboard the Superstar Virgo. It was among the best experiences this year and it alone included so much firsts for me.

Experiencing extreme activities in CDO and Bukidnon: The same best friend dragged me (willingly) to join her in white water rafting, riding an ATV and riding the Zorb. While I was scared spitless with these activities, I enjoyed all of them. Our guide were awesome people, so I was glad to hear that they were doing ok after Sendong.

Getting my first DSLR: I took the jump and got myself a Canon Rebel T2I/Kiss X4/550D. It took a huge chunk of my 13th month bonus but I have no regrets. Right now my subjects are toys, landscape and the best highlight of my 2011.

My niece, Olivia Cassidy: My brother Nunik surprised us when he said he was going to be a dad, but we were all excited. Cassie joined our family on August 26 of this year, and life has never been the same since.

My 30th birthday: When I was younger, I thought 30 was old. Particularly when my mom was only in her early 20s when I was born, so I thought this age was so far away. Well, it has come and gone but there are days when I still can’t believe that it’s how old I am. I still get mistaken for my mid-twenties, something which I’m quite thankful for. Right now, I do believe that age is just a number, and shouldn’t be a factor that influences things. I feel that I’m just starting out, and there are so many things that I can and need to do. 2012 is my year, I’m making sure of it.

Watching Jason Mraz live: It may not be as monumental as meeting him, but close enough. Jason has this aura of positivity and love that makes you feel so alive and be thankful about it. His concert was a mix of laid back, chillin’ atmosphere, to a rock concert (with the way we were all screaming). He carried a message of love and peace, and I really felt that.

2011 was not without it’s downs, and December was the most hard hit of all. Still, it is not hard to see the good things, even though it’s painful.

Without further ado, here is my annual end of the year survey, although I only did one, rather than two. I hope that you had a wonderful year, and may 2012 be a blessed one for you.

What did you do in 2010 that you’d never done before?
Quite a lot. White water rafting, driving an ATV, riding ZORB, going out of the country, going on a cruise, riding a roller coaster twice! I also became an aunt 😀

Did you keep your new years’ resolutions, and will you make more for next year?

Did anyone close to you give birth?
My cousin Aivanne gave birth to my first nephew, Royce. My brother’s girlfriend Cindy gave birth to my first niece (and first pamangkin from a sibling)! Also, just yesterday my good friend Jean gave birth to her second boy.

Did anyone close to you die?
I experienced more deaths of people I know this year than any other year. My late grandmother’s youngest brother passed away a week before Christmas. He was 80 years old and had suffered cancer. Two other deaths occurred: one was my co-worker Efraim who passed away early December, and the other was Ate Prosie, my ex-boyfriend’s landlady’s daughter, who took care of us while we were still studying in Baguio. My Lolo Sal’s brother Lolo Mori also passed away.

What countries did you visit?
For the first time since I’ve done this, my answer has changed! Hehe. I went to Singapore and Malaysia. In the Philippines, I’ve visited Cagayan de Oro and Bukidnon.

What would you like to have in 2012 that you lacked in 2011?
A love life is the default answer, but for 2012, I’d love to have more creative outlets and ventures than I did in 2011. I now have plenty of time to do what I want, so I plan to do what I can to fulfill that goal.

What date from 2010 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
August 26, 2011: Nunik texted and said “The baby’s here!” I became an aunt that day, and I love my niece so much!

What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Winning the Moleskine on the Move contest hosted by Moleskine Asia. I decided to join on a whim and to my surprise, I won!

What was your biggest failure?
Committing to an assignment and failing to deliver (in fairness, I was able to know early on that I couldn’t do it, so I backed out).

Did you suffer illness or injury?
I had my usual share of coughs and colds. The worse I got was a bad case of stomach flu during Christmas.

What was the best thing you bought?
In no particular order: My Plueys, my DSLR, my Gap umbrella.

Whose behavior merited celebration?
I can’t think of an answer here.

Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
The local artistas and politicians.

Where did most of your money go?
Household expenses; personal luho like books, toys; food trips; SLR and inutang.

What did you get really, really, really excited about?
A few things: my niece, my SLR, going abroad, starting the new year 🙂

What song(s) will always remind you of 2011?
Anything Jason Mraz, Drifting (Plumb and Dan Haseltine), Black Horse and a Cherry Tree (ortoPilot version).

Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder? — Overall, happier.
ii. thinner or fatter? — Heavier, which doesn’t necc. mean I’m fatter (same answer last year).
iii. richer or poorer? — Well, my bank account’s pretty full, but that’s temporary. I think I’m richer in friends, and life lessons.

What do you wish you’d done more?
Draw, take photos. Read more. Spend time with certain people more. Exercise. Write more.

Procrastinate, listen to rumors, spread rumors, eaten less junk food. Worry less.

Bones remains the top favorite, but I recently started on Doctor Who and I love, love, love it to bits. BBC’s Sherlock is also amazing.

Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?
No, not really hate. More like I pity this person, and I find their actions sometimes irritating.

What was the best book you read
To be honest, I haven’t really read anything that really counts as the best. I didn’t really read much this year, come to think of it. Big shock!

What was your greatest musical discovery?
Rediscovered Jason Mraz, then I found ortoPilot on YouTube and instantly fell in love with his cover of KT Tunstall’s “Black Horse and Cherry Tree”.

What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
I’m pretty ok with how the year went, barring the events towards the end. Maybe if I dated a little more, but then again, I’m ok with not dating more either hehe.

How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2010
The usual, but I’ve taken to occasionally wearing skirts and shorts instead of jeans (still the same shirts and sneakers though hehe).

What kept you sane?
Being able to go online and chat with my friends. Seeing my niece.

Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Hahaha, celebrity crush? The most would be Arthur Darvil, who plays Rory Williams on Doctor Who.

Which political issue stirred you the most?
Nothing. I decided to steer clear of politics.

Who did you miss?
The family who had gone ahead, particularly my grandparents who would’ve loved Cassie.

Who is the best new person you met?
Madami eh!

Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2011:
Death is not considerate. It comes whenever it wants. Make the most of your life. Express yourself. Be real to who you are. Also, sometimes you should know when not to pay attention to stories you hear and practice your own judgement.

What was the nicest thing someone told you about yourself?
“Weh? 30 ka na? Akala ko 26!”

The most touching experience you’ve had this year?
Seeing the camaraderie of the folks at work, and how they’ve come to accept me kahit na ilang araw na lang ang natitira sa pagsasama namin.

What did you like most about yourself this year?
I tried some new things this year. Also, I think I exerted myself a little more in some things. 😛

What did you hate most about yourself this year?
Torpe pa rin ako. Hehe.

Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
“There’s so many wars we fought
There’s so many things we’re not
But with what we have
I promise you that
We’re marchin’ on”
– Marching On, OneRepublic

Hahaha, wala akong maisip.

If you could go back in time to any moment of 2010 and change something, what would it be?

What are your plans for 2012?
I feel that I have more free time this 2012, so my plans would be is to do more of the things I didn’t have time for last year: travel, write, paint, etc. I used work as an excuse, now I don’t have that. 🙂

How are you different now that the year has ended?
I guess I know more people now, and I’ve done a little more than I did last year. Aside from being older, I guess I have more knowledge in general.

What are your wishes for the new year?
My wishes would be: 1) I fulfill my goals for 2012; 2) My family, friends and I would continue to be happy, healthy and safe and free from financial worries; 3) love life (wahahahaha); 4) a job or a steady source of income that I truly enjoy and be able to practice my creativity in ways that my previous jobs didn’t; 5) for people to see that we need a lifestyle change to help keep our planet safe. 🙂
