Congratulations, Philippine Volcanoes!

Congratulations to the Philippines Volcanoes for winning last Saturday’s match against the United Arab Emirates. It was pretty tense, given how the guys needed this win to stay in this division and qualify for the World Cup.

As I’m rather lousy with recalling the events of the game, here’s an article from GMA News TV for a rundown of the match. Kudos as well to the UAE team who put up a strong fight.

Fun Gathering
I started supporting the team last year, and I enjoy going to their matches here in the home turf. I’ve gotten to know some really awesome people who are also big rugby fans, and last night was no exception. We bonded over the game, the players and other crazy ideas that are best left unsaid in polite company (which we aren’t, at that time haha).

Here’s a few photos post-game. I love how the Volcanoes take time to mingle with the people who came to watch their games.

Celebrating the win with friends
With Joiz and my newfound friends, the future board of directors of my corporation. *evilgrin*

Ry and Ray
With our good friend Ryan and his cousin Ray. Ray’s a big rugby (fan is not the word I’d use because he also plays), and the whole duration of the game he was yelling and cursing and cheering, if not explaining how it the game was progressing.

Joiz and Lolo
Joiz and Austin “Lolo” Dacanay. Last year I took a picture of these two with Joiz as the cheerleader. Here they are again, with more goofy grins than ever.

Joiz and Steve
Joiz and Steve. Glad to see he’ doing ok after the last match.

Jake Letts
Here’s my favorite photo (well, a close second from the crazy photobomb photo of Joiz haha) of the night. Everyone was posing with the players, but I wanted something different. I asked Jake to stand with his back to me, but looking over his shoulder. I think he was amused (at least, I hope he was). I wanted to ask Mike for a similar photo but when I looked around he was gone. And I was shy…

And now some photos of the team. Sorry, you can’t really make out their faces. My lens can’t go that far (maybe next game I’ll have better shots).

    1. Hi Geevie! Not sure if they have a home game any time soon, but I’ll let you know! 😀 It’s fun to watch their games and you’ll learn to love the sport too.
